Spring 2021

Hello friends!

Springtime always calls to mind change, growth, and a return of beauty after long winter month. Here in El Salvador springtime is the beginning of rainy season, where after months of dry winds, you can see green things coming to life all around. We are reminded of the promise in Jeremiah 17:7-8, and seek to remain trusting in the Lord, confident that He will enable us to bear good fruit.

La Fuente

The La Fuente San Salvador program is now meeting twice a week, in person, Tuesdays for worship, devotions, and debrief. Thursdays for La Fuente F.C. (soccer) training and games. La Fuente Apopa continues to meet three days a week, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. There continues to be virtual tutoring classes as well three days a week, since most of the kids are still doing school online. We are thankful to God to be able to say that both sites are running well and everyone has remained fairly healthy!

Every month the theme of the devotions for both sites are based off of one of our core values. In March we studied honesty, April was love, and May is focusing on service. It is a wonderful time to teach biblical understanding of what these values mean and how we can incorporate them into our every day lives.

Short-Term Teams

Glory to God, El Salvador has remained open to international travel, and this March we were delighted to be able to host a youth group from Grand Junction, Colorado. This group was here in March 2020 and had to cut their first trip short, leaving on the last flight out of San Salvador before the airport shutdown. What a joy to see how God opened the doors for them to come back and finish the work they began! They led a VBS program in the town of Quetzaltepeque, participated with La Fuente San Salvador, joined La Fuente Apopa for their soccer training, and led VBS with the little ones from the Apopa Alliance children's' ministry. Despite heat, a busy schedule, and one broken collar bone, their team did an incredible job and blessed many people, our staff included!

We are also thankful to share that we have a few more teams that will be arriving this summer!

Interns

In March we were also able to welcome the first of our interns for the year! Doug, a former Alliance Worker, came as part of the GiveBack program to help teach English with both La Fuente programs, as well as helping staff in Apopa and San Salvador with their English studies. Doug joined us for four weeks and we are thankful for his heart to serve!

We have now welcomed two new interns, Collin in April, and Sam a week ago! They are both here for three months each and will be serving in various projects, including training alongside the soccer teams and leading devotions with La Fuente. We also have three female interns joining us in the next two weeks as well! We are excited to have them here and look forward to seeing what God has in store for their time with us.

Ministry Opportunities

We still have plenty of space for anyone interested in coming to serve here as a short-term team or as an intern or resident! If you are interested or have any questions about ministry here, please feel free to contact our Site Associate, Laura Rodriguez at RodriguezL@weareenvision.com .

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for the La Fuente leadership team for wisdom and direction. There is the possibility of opening a third site this year, and we would appreciate prayer for this new move.

  • Join us praying for a believing psychologist to come join us in the work here! We are praying for a qualified psychologist with a heart to serve and a love for teens.

  • Continue praying for the students of the La Fuente programs, for their provision and protection, spiritual, physical, and mental health, and for their studies. This school year is almost halfway done and they are facing their midterms soon!

  • Pray for our interns Collin and Sam, as well as for the Gabby, Lucy, and Lauren, joining us later this month! Pray that through their time here they would deepen their love for the Lord, and that He would use them to bless others.

  • Pray for health and safety of staff.

  • Pray for the groups that are set to come later this summer. Pray for their health and that God would be leading and preparing their hearts for their ministry when they arrive.

Blessings,

Envision El Salvador
